Pro-gun rally greets returning CO lawmakers

DENVER (AP) -- Gun-rights enthusiasts rallied outside the Colorado Capitol to send a message to lawmakers convening inside.

About 100 protesters held signs calling on lawmakers to avoid changing state gun laws. Some waved "Don't Tread On Me" flags and promised more protests on gun control.

The Legislature is expected to debate an assault-weapons ban and other gun-control measures in the first session since last year's Aurora theater shootings.

The rally came a day before the governor's annual State of the State address. Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper has said he wants lawmakers to debate gun control, but he hasn't elaborated on details.

Some Democrats want to see an assault-weapons ban and more frequent mental health alerts on gun background checks. Some Republicans introduced legislation to allow school employees to carry concealed weapons.

Well that is an ignorant statement. With the schools, being a "Gun Free Zone" that carnage can happen in a few short minutes, with no chance of stopping a madman or woman. Guns in schools have been around until the 1995, with no such massacres, from the inside. This whole scenario was put into place with the Federal Government creating such an unsafe environment, as “Gun Free Zone”. It sounds more as if we need more intense screening or the Teachers without union interference. We need to test teachers with Psychological exams, Drug and Alcohol testing, and just plain having the school report on teachers with Odd behaviors.

Guns in school.. What an idea! This way if school employee gets upset by a pesky kid, over the pink slip or after breakup SMS they can make the world feel their pain right that moment.
