But there's one aspect of the planning process that's even more important than the rest, how you're getting to and from the event - safely.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, alcohol related fatalities of youth under 21 spike during prom and graduation season.

Law enforcement officials say even if you're sober, it's everyone's job to make sure their friend's and family are being safe too.

"Make sure that they're not driving intoxicated or high on any substances," says Colorado State Patrol Corporal Denny O'Leary don't be afraid to ask don't be afraid to make sure that somebody is sober before you allow them to leave."

Statistics show shelling out a few extra bucks for a limo driver may be a good idea for more reasons than just making an entrance.

The NHTSA says in 2005, nearly 700 people under the age of 21 were killed in alcohol-related fatalities during prom and graduation season - April, May and June.

Several limo companies including Allen Unique Autos and Absolute Prestige Limos have special pricing for students headed to prom.
