Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – For many a trip to the slopes means getting your bindings for your skies and board ready. For Eric Landis getting ready is a little different.

Eric is a professional mountain biker specializing in downhill racing. He was inspired last year when he watched the Teva Winter Mountain games. This year he plans on competing in the dual slalom race.

On Tuesday Powderhorn ski resort allowed Eric to come up and test his bike on the snow. "So typically the training park is strictly for boarders and skiers that are coming in to enhance and practice their skills, however, today we have shut that off and allowed Eric Landis to come up," says Gabrielle Michna, sales and marketing manager at Powderhorn.

Eric had to make special tires to allow him to get traction on the hill. "I wasn't sure if they were going to work. I literally thought the studs were going to pull out or the tires might blow up, but I have been up here a couple of hours and it's working just fantastic," says Eric Landis.

Eric will be competing this weekend in the Teva Mountain games being held in Vail.
