MESA COUNTY, Colo. The Riverfront Trail project will connect Palisade to Fruita by creating a trail that goes between the Walter Walker Wildlife Sanctuary to 18 1/2 Road.

After the third phase is complete there will still be a hole between 27 1/2 Road to 29 Road because the county backed out of funding that section..

Officials expect some lane closures and slower traffic during the third phase which connects 18 1/2 Road to 27 1/2 Road, but hope the trail will be used not just for recreation, but also by commuters which in turn will reduce traffic.

The project is set to be completed by the end of July.
