Only the quick ones survived. Adults and kids were sent running for their lives Saturday in Fruita. It was all part of a zombie infested 5K event.

It's called “The Last Run of Your Life.” Participants were given flags to wear that represented their health. Flesh eating zombies were then sent crawling, shuffling and scaring runners so they could steal those flags. The runners who survived were eligible for prizes.

This was the first annual event, and organizers say it was so successful this year, they expect it to grow much bigger in years to come.

"We had over 300 runners this year, about 100 zombies, and we were going to top it off at 400. So next year, we'll probably get more runners, and we'll be allowed to get more people and more zombies and make it a bigger and bigger event every year,” event director Britton Crone said.

All proceeds went to benefit the "Grant a Wish Program" to provide life skills through programs like karate and horseback riding to young people on the Western Slope. A local dance group was also on scene dressed up as zombies and broke out in a flash mob to… What else? Michael Jackson’s "Thriller."
