"If people don't need those extra turkeys that they can pick up at the different grocery stores, and can pick one up for a lower cost; it's a good way to be able to donate a little bit extra to someone who is in need, and to those who are in need at Thanksgiving," said Captain Dan Wilson with the Salvation Army.

Every organizers say this year's goals is 1,700 turkeys. Last year they rounded up over 1,100 turkeys. If you can't make the event on Thursday, you can still donate a turkey. You can drop off your donated turkey at the Salvation Army headquarters, 1235 North 4th Street in Grand Junction, from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday.
