Skier dies after hitting tree at Copper Mountain

COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say a 13-year-old Texas boy has died after hitting a tree while skiing at Copper Mountain in Colorado.

The Summit County coroner says Tristan Bartlett of Houston wasn't wearing a helmet when he struck the tree Friday. The resort says he was on a beginner trail at the time.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m.
