DENVER (AP) Aviation officials say a small helicopter-style gyroplane with only the pilot aboard has crashed while taking off at Front Range Airport east of Denver.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer says the crash occurred Thursday.
There was no immediate word on whether the pilot was injured. Airport officials didn't immediately return a call.
Kenitzer says the plane was a Dominator gyroplane, considered an experimental aircraft.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
Front Range Airport is just south of Denver International Airport.
