Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – Some local middle school students are taking the stress out of wrapping those presents this holiday season. In return they are asking for a small donation which will help them see our Nations capital.
Like many of his classmates Aaron Dollar has never been to Washington D.C. but this school year he and his eighth grade classmates have been fundraising in hopes of changing that.
Aaron's brother made the trip with his class which has inspired Aaron to do the same. "I’m pretty excited after hearing my brother's stories and stuff," says Aaron
Destiny Mendenhall, is in Aarons class and she’s excited to see the city she has spent a semester studying. "it's different from just reading about Washington in a text book at school to actually seeing it and experiencing it.”
An experience that will help these students understand the history of America first hand as they prepare to become our future leaders. "We are going to be the face of America in a couple of years and it will be important that we know about America its culture and traditions” says Mendenhall
This week their quest has them at Murdoch’s wrapping presents for customers.
So far the students have raised over $17,000 for their trip.
They will be back at Murdoch’s Saturday and Sunday and then next weekend they will be at Barnes and Noble.
