Sword-wielding man fatally shot by campus cop

DENVER (AP) -- Officials say a police officer was critically injured by a suspect who was wielding a sword on a college campus in downtown Denver.

Denver police spokeswoman Raquel Lopez says the officer shot and killed the suspect on the Auraria campus at about 6 a.m. Saturday, but not before one of the officer's fingers was almost severed during the confrontation.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition.

The Denver Post says the male suspect's name has not been released.

Must not have been much of a swing, modern swords and sabers/sabres will cleave human torso in half with a single motion. But that said, from the info given this sounds justified.
