FRUITA, Colo. An unnamed Fruita 8/9 teacher is under investigation after a concerned mom of one of his former students told the Fruita Police Department he was sending her daughter inappropriate Facebook messages.

Sergeant John Coughran said she is not the only one as other female students have also reported similar communications with him.

District 51 and the Fruita PD have both launched investigations and when an investigator asked the teacher for his computer, he gave it up voluntarily.

Tim Leon, with District 51, said teachers are taught about appropriate and professional ways to deal with students, but this teacher is accused of breaking those rules.

The investigation is on going and Leon says the school district has no timeline on when it will wrap up because it depends on the number of students involved and the type of crime committed.

Students directly and indirectly affected by the situation can find counseling services through their schools.
