Tiara Rado Animal Hospital offers free vaccinations

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A local animal clinic is helping keep pets healthy, even if their owners can't afford to do so.

For the third year in a row, Tiara Rado Animal Hospital offered free vaccinations to dozens of cats and dogs at Catholic Outreach.

Vaccinations included distemper and rabies shots.

Veterinarians say this is a way to provide vaccinations to animals that may not otherwise have an opportunity to get vaccinated as their owners may not be able to afford them.

"We do this once or twice a year-- typically it's about twice a year now. It’s a way of getting to a population of pets that ordinarily wouldn't get vaccinations," said Dr. Bob Marquis, a veterinarian at Tiara Rado Animal Hospital.

Tiara Rado Animal Hospital staff provided immunizations to the first 100 dogs that showed up.

Vets say immunizations are important because it not only keeps the pet healthy, but also keeps other animals healthy.
