CLIFTON, Colo. (KKCO) - Mesa County Sheriff's Office officials say there is an unattended death investigation going on at the intersection of 33 Road and the train tracks after one person has been hit by a train.

Officials say at 9:15 p.m. a call came in from a train company to 911 dispatchers saying someone had been hit by a train. Deputies arrived on the scene moments later and confirmed one person had died at the scene.

Authorities are calling it an unattended death investigation and the Coroner will rule on the cause and manner of death, as well as identity of the person.

Trains are backed up, as is traffic. Deputies are working to process the scene along with the Mesa County Coroner. It's likely the process will take a few hours, and once that's done the train will be on its way again.

That section of 33 Road is closed at this time and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
