GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Two elevated solar panels were placed in parking lots a couple of years ago at the VA Medical Center. Now seven more solar systems will be constructed in other parking lots and on roofs.

The $6,000,000 project was funded by Congress and approved by the VA.

The benefits include; cutting electric costs in half, having an energy source, other than generators, if a disaster happens and covered parking for patients and visitors.

"With snow season coming on it might be a little safer getting in and out of the cars getting into the building," Barbara Kent, Nurse.

If everything goes according to plan, the construction is expected to last 12 to 14 weeks.
