Trevino charge changed to first degree murder after girlfriend dies

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Thomas Trevino’s girlfriend has died and now the former fugitive is facing first degree murder charges.

According to NBC affiliate KTVB-TV, Jill Gelever died last Thursday, the day Trevino agreed to be extradited back to Idaho after being found in Grand Junction.

Trevino led authorities on a county-wide manhunt after Idaho investigators tracked him via cell phone signal to Grand Junction.

Idaho authorities say Trevino shot Gelever in the head July 5 at a hotel in Twin Falls, Idaho.
