Grand Junction, Colo (KKCO) --- The Mesa County Commissioners held a meeting today and addressed the adoption of a resolution that would support Sheriff Stan Hilkey and 55 other sheriff's who have teamed up to sue the state of Colorado after two gun control legislations passed.
The Commissioners stand behind Sheriff Hilkey and agree that these gun control efforts are unconstitutional, unenforceable and place unfunded mandates on the Sheriff's Office.
County Commissioner, Rose Pugliese, wrote the resolution and said, "These unfundated mandates that are coming down will have to divert funds in order to give him [Sheriff Hilkey] the resources he needs to enforce these probably unenforceable laws."
The next step is to put together an amicus brief for all the counties involved to sign, which will then be presented to the courts.
