Palisade Peach Festival celebrates local industry


PALISADE, Colo. (KKCO) --- It's the peachiest time of year in Palisade and people are celebrating it.

Thousands spent their Saturday at the annual Palisade Peach Festival. The juicy stone fruit could be found in nearly every corner, smoothie, bowl of ice cream or contest that was going on.

"What really branded the Grand Valley was the peaches," said Carol Zadrozny, owner of Z's Orchard in Palisade. "We have wine and grapes and a lot of things going on now, but the peaches were the very first thing we were recognized for."

One of Saturday's main events was the peach eating contest. Young and old devoured peaches as fast as they could to win prizes. But even the losers still got to enjoy the Grand Valley's famous fruit.

"We have the perfect soil conditions, the perfect environment to grow the best stone fruit," Zadrozny said. "Of all the stone fruit, peaches are the best."
