Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) --- Western Colorado organizations are working to make life easier for local veterans.
“They are certainly deserving,” said Dr. Randal France, the chief of psychiatry at the Grand Junction Veterans Affairs Medical Center. “They have given quite a commitment to our country, so it's our time to pay them back for that.”
The Grand Junction VA Medical Center hosted the Community Mental Health Summit Thursday afternoon.
About 80 people representing organizations from 17 counties in Western Colorado attended the event.
They discussed topics ranging from addictive disorders and suicide prevention to how to help veterans with work and housing issues.
“Particularly with the ending of our recent conflicts, we’re going to see more and more of new veterans entering our community,” Dr. France said.
Dr. France said the goal of the summit was to create cooperation among area organizations, which will make it easier for veterans to get the care they need.
