GRAND JUNCTION,Colo. Colorado is known for its beautiful scenery but it takes a lot of hard work to keep it looking that way so on Saturday a group of volunteers hit the river cleaning up any garbage they found.

More than 45 volunteers used their own resources today to get out on the water and clean up the river banks, and within just minutes they were already filling trash bags full of garbage.

Bob Richardson coordinated the event along with members from the BLM and said being able to clean up the rivers they love to be out on is a great feeling.

"These people come out and use their own boats these boats get dirty; it's kind of hard on these boats you know," said Richardson.

The clean-up effort was spread out into three groups of volunteers to cover as much of the river as possible.

The group ended the day at Riverside Park with a barbecue to celebrate their efforts, and every participant got multiple gifts for volunteering their time.
