Walsenburg, Colo. (AP) -- A Colorado detective says a sister and two brothers accused in a cross-country crime spree planned to flee to Mexico and obtain fraudulent documents. Colorado Springs Police Detective Larry Dyer testified Tuesday that one of the siblings, 21 year-old Ryan Edward Dougherty, said he hatched the plan after he was convicted in Florida of sending sexually explicit text messages to an 11 year old girl. Dyer says Dougherty came up with the idea the day he was sentenced to register as a sex offender. The new details in the case emerged during a hearing in Southern Colorado where the trio was captured last month after a widely publicized manhunt.
The siblings are accused of robbing a bank in Georgia and shooting at police officers in Florida and Colorado.
