American Expecting More Flight Disruptions

Dallas (AP) It could be a bumpy ride for more air travelers today.

American Airlines canceled about 500 flights yesterday and may scrap more today. Hundreds of its MD-80s are having to undergo wiring checks for the second time in two weeks.

More than a third of American's 2,300 daily flights use that aircraft, mostly out of Dallas and Chicago.

The Federal Aviation Administration is still not happy with wiring work that caused delays two weeks ago. At issue is how the cords used to secure bundles of wires for the auxiliary hydraulic systems are spaced and lined up.

American says there's been no compromise to flight safety and apologizes for the missed flights.

The Texas-based airline says it will try to arrange other flights for travelers. And it will also foot the bill for meals, hotels and ground transportation because, as a spokesman puts it, the delays were within the airline's control, not weather related.
