DENVER (AP) - Former Congressman Tom Tancredo is still trying to keep Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes out of the governor’s office.

Maes rejected an offer from Tancredo for both men to get out of the gubernatorial race and let the Republican Party pick a new candidate.

State Republican Party Chairman Dick Wadhams says he delivered the offer to Maes after Tancredo offered it as a compromise to give republicans a chance to win back the governor’s office in November.

Wadhams said he respects the decisions of both candidates and says he will continue to back Maes who won the GOP primary.

Tancredo bolted from the party to run as the American Constitution Party candidate.
