GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - One day after heated political debates at Club 20, state Republican candidates turned out for a much more low-key gathering in Grand Junction.

It was a unity event hosted by the Mesa County Young Republicans and the barbeque in Sherwood Park served as a laidback forum for the candidates to converse with locals about their projections for November.

Organizers say now is the perfect time for the Republican Party to come together.

The candidates weren’t just working the crowds, either. Gubernatorial Candidate Dan Maes and U.S. House of Representative Candidate Scott Tipton got behind the grill to cook up some hamburgers and hot dogs.

I was a Republican. Now I am an Independent. I consider the current offering in Colorado for offices this year is dismal. Why bar Tancredo? If he does not appear on ballot, I will vote for the Democrat.
