Washington (AP) A day after what's termed a productive meeting between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton, a top Clinton backer says she'd accept running-mate status.
Fellow New York senator Charles Schumer tells ABC's “Good Morning America” that Clinton would be the vice presidential nominee if Obama felt it was best for the ticket. Schumer also says Clinton will work just as hard for the party if Obama picks someone
Clinton and Obama met privately yesterday to talk about uniting the democratic party, but a statement provided no details.
Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs declined to comment on their topics of discussion, including the possibility of Obama inviting Clinton to become his running mate. Obama says the selection process is ongoing.
Clinton's campaign also is not commenting.
