Laura Bradford threatens to leave GOP

According to the Denver Post State Representative Laura Bradford says she is considering leaving the Republican Party.

This would have a significant impact on House Leadership. Republicans with Bradford hold only a 33-32 lead over Democrats.

If she became Unaffiliated the vote would be 32-32-1 and a new vote would be held on who the House Speaker is. Currently the House Speaker is Republican Frank McNulty.

Her decision is partially due to an ethics investigation against her continuing after Denver Police admitted she didn’t use her position to get out of a D-U-I arrest last week.

Fellow Republican Senator Steve King told 11 News via text, “It is disappointing that a contested traffic stop possible DUI becomes the impetus for the Democratic Party taking control of the House of Representatives.”

We will continue to update this story as new details become available.

i do not know why she does not have the spine and backbone to just resign. i mean 3 glasses of wine and then some bogus excuse that your car door flew open? that is why you are driving erratically? kind of like newt gingrich so busy doing work of government that his zipper flew open and he became an adulterer! and politicians wonder why we are fed up with them?

Kevin, when you twist the facts of the story to support your attack on Bradford it makes your motives questionable. No one used the “bogus excuse that YOUR car door flew open”, except you Kevin. The news story states that Bradford said that “the passenger door of a car improperly parked in the left lane suddenly opened” (causing her to swerve). Apparently that was the avoidance maneuver that led the police officer to believe she was driving erratically. The Denver police have already acknowledged that she did not invoke legislative privilege. It was their decision not to give her a breathalyzer or blood test which prohibits her from proving she wasn’t driving drunk, (Presumption of innocence), even though she asked to be treated like any other citizen. Your complaint should lie with the actions of the Denver PD unless your attack on Bradford is politically motivated in which case your credibility is questionable.

Just wondering, Kevin but if you are accused of something you did not do, are you the kind that slinks away and accepts punishment for the false charge? Cause if you are, I don't want you representing me. It takes spine and backbone to stand up when all around you are slings and arrows.

I can certainly understand the ire expressed by the Repubs against Laura Bradford. After all, they’re the ones trying to destroy Laura Bradford. What I’m having trouble with is why all the Dems are attacking her. Let’s review. She’s offering to give you the majority in State Legislature. What is in evidence in these posts is the polarization caused by partisan politics. Whether you’re liberal or a conservative like me, the one thing you can take away from this story is that what’s good for the American people has been totally forgotten because you’re too busy attacking one another and splitting your own votes. The truth doesn’t matter anymore, all that matters is power. But just in case you’re wondering; the truth is regardless of which side wins, they can’t govern and it is our nation and our people who suffer and the politicians are laughing all the way to the bank. Is that what you were going to ask for? You are being played like a two dollar fiddle as Rome burns. The day after the election, all of these politicians will be slapping each other on the back. You see it every time and you fall for it every time. Don’t vote for the incumbent, don’t vote for either party’s anointed candidate and don’t vote for the career politicians. Insist on having a real choice; your choice and if you don’t get it, don’t validate their choice. Please read George Washington’s words that follow this post and think about.

“However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion”. There is no law against carrying concealed if you have a permit, which she did. So, why is that being brought up like she should be drawn and quarter for it? It is still a 2nd Amendenment right I believe, so if you have a problem with that maybe you would like to see everyone disarmed?

Seems to me if she was arrested for the DUI, while in possession of the firearm, there may be a problem, BUT no DUI arrest........ no problem with the firearm, case closed.

Just politics as usual Doris. She screwed up, should have been arrested for the DWI, had the gun in her possession at the time, but caught a break. Now she's playing the whiny victim in an ethics investigation. Another narcissistic politician.

Wake up folks, haven't you been paying attention to the GOP Presidential race? They have been eating up one candidate after another. They are hell bent on making sure the only one left standing is their guy who played by their rules and waited his "turn". The same thing goes on in local politics too. It is the best movie playing this year so learn the "stars", the directors, the producers, get some popcorn and sit back and watch the show.

Claudette, you’re appalled by the lack of knowledge in the voting gene pool. OK, but like me you’re an insider. What I mean by that is; you know what’s going on. You know the massive manipulation that’s occurring accompanied by misinformation and of course disinformation. What’s being created is the R vs D or visa-versa imperative. It’s like a drug to those who play the game for fun and profit. But to the average citizen whose life style and well being they believe is dependent on the outcome, it’s a big turn-off. That’s why politicians rate just below insurance and used car salesmen. Once the people find out they are being totally manipulated they will revolt. The invention of the guillotine was the will of the people, returning to the will of the people by any means necessary. That’s what happens when the people no longer have a choice of their own; they make one. And then they do the same thing the political parties do; they eliminate all other choices. That’s what winning in politics is all about. That’s the lesson and credit where credits due; the people may be apathetic but they’re learning how to win.

What I really want to know is how did she vote on Roe vs Wade? That's what really matters in our local representatives.

I am confused. Is Laura blackmailing the republican party to avoid an ethics investigation into her recent episode with the Denver police department?

It's more extortion than blackmail, but, pretty much.
