Romney calls Obama's health care requirement a tax

WOLFEBORO, N.H. (AP) -- Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Wednesday said the requirement that all Americans buy health insurance amounts to a tax, contradicting a senior campaign adviser.

"The majority of the court said it's a tax and therefore it is a tax. They have spoken. There's no way around that," Romney said in an interview with CBS News. "You can try and say you wish they had decided a different way but they didn't. They concluded it was a tax."

In shifting his position, Romney contradicted senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom, who said earlier in the week that Romney viewed the health care law's mandate to buy insurance as a penalty, a fee or a fine -- but not a tax.

As governor of Massachusetts, Romney enacted a health care law that also required residents to buy health insurance or pay a penalty.

"The governor believes that what we put in place in Massachusetts was a penalty and he disagrees with the court's ruling that the mandate was a tax," Fehrnstrom said Monday on MSNBC.

In an excerpt of the interview released by CBS News, Romney also said Obama broke his promise not to raise taxes on middle-class families by putting the mandate in place.

Romney was interviewed in Wolfeboro, N.H., where he is spending the week largely off the campaign trail. He marched in the town's Fourth of July parade Wednesday and appeared with his family.

Of course it is a tax! The hundreds of pages in the plan say it is a tax. The dems say it is a tax. Obama has said it is a tax. They have 13000 pages outlining the monsterous tax of the health care plan. Anyone who does not believe it is a tax is too stupid to live and they will probably be denied health care. Now listen carefully - THE ONLY WAY THE GOVERNMENT CAN GENERATE FUNDS FOR ANYTHING IS TO TAX!!!!! Liberals can call it a fuzzy navel but it is still a TAX!

IT IS A TAX. The undisputed champion of manipulation is at it again. Romney is correct according the the Supreme Court. What is the problem other than the fact that our leader is a moron who is very good at speaking the written word and has gotten his puppet strings tangled recently. Please end this administrations acts of terrorism on our wonderful country.

So Mormons don't make it up as they go along? And, if you feel comfortable turning it into a partisan game, that's fine, but as an Independent I could care less. Mormon Mitt passed the same thing in Massachusetts when he was governor...call it what you want, they are the exact same thing; it's just semantics. The funny part is how he can sit there with that smug Mormon face and pretend the educated people in this country can't see he's no different than the person currently residing in the White House. You are the one putting a spin on it...not me. Lastly, since I already have insurance, it's nothing to me. I just want the free-loaders to get some skin in the game and stop expecting me to pay for them.

I wonder if Mr Romney can find his birth certificate? I wonder if Mr Romney announced his candidacy at the house of an unrepentant domestic terrorist? I wonder if the priest at the Mormon church Mr Romney attended ever said "G.D. America?" I wonder if Mr Romney has a half brother in a foreign county who lives on $12 a year? I wonder if Mr. Romney ever shut off the water to a California Valley under the guise of saving little fish? I wonder if Mr Romney ever made fun of special education kids and the way that they bowl? I wonder if Mr Romney has ever publicly blamed a police officer without knowing the facts, then tried to smooth it over with a beer? I wonder if Mr Romney has ever purposely enacted an unconstitutional travesty of a bill by sneaking it through under cover of darkness and holiday. I wonder if Mr Romney has ever ran guns to a foreign country and then used executive privileged to protect the guilty? Or is it just semantics?

Romney actually repeated what the Supreme Court said, wow. What a news story! Someone in politics actually admitted that the U.S. Supreme Court said that ObamaCare is a tax. Now, its time for the liberal hate and the "journalistic" spin.

Where does the penalty fee end up? What is it going to be used for?
