Denver (AP) The flags at the state capitol are flying at half staff in honor of the two volunteer firefighters who died responding to the Crowley County wildfires.
Gov. Bill Ritter ordered that U.S. and Colorado flags be lowered across the state on Friday and Saturday in memory of John Schwartz and Terry Devore.
The men died Tuesday when their fire engine drove into a ditch after a fire weakened bridge collapsed. They were rushing to a fast-moving fire that forced the evacuation of Ordway, a town of about 1,200 people in southeast Colorado.
Schwartz's funeral was scheduled for Friday afternoon at United Methodist church in Fowler. A joint memorial service for Schwartz and Devore was set for Saturday morning at Crowley County high school.
