Denver (AP) Denver police say two officers involved in a fatal shooting Saturday had joined the department within the last decade.

Christopher Cesarec and Chris Pappas were involved in the shooting that killed 45-year-old Odiceo Valencia. Their names were released yesterday.

Police say Valencia was shot after allegedly charging at officers with a knife. Police say officers tried to subdue him with a taser and non-lethal pellets before firing the fatal shots.

Officers originally were called to the scene on a report that a drunken man had cut himself with a knife.

Cesarec joined the Denver police department in 2000, and Pappas joined in 2005.
