Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site, Colo. (AP) Federal firefighters have joined Fort Carson crews in fighting a 20,000 acre wildfire on the army's training site in southeastern Colorado.
Two Blackhawk helicopters are also helping put out the flames
Officials believe lightning started the fire, which is burning about 30 miles inside the 370-square mile Pinon Canyon Maneuver site. No structures are threatened on the land, which is operated by Fort Carson.
Fort Carson spokesman Capt. Gregory Dorman said there were no prescribed burns in the area when the fire was reported.
The remote site on the southeastern plains is dotted by canyons and is surrounded by acres and acres of ranch land.
