Denver (AP) Denver police say one man has died in a shootout with officers who shot and wounded at least one other man as clubs in the lower downtown neighborhood were closing.

Police say that around 2 a.m. Today, officers who were moving crowds out of Lodo went to a parking lot to break up a fight when they heard gunshots.

Officers then saw two men exchanging gunfire and confronted one man, who they say fired in their direction. Officers returned fire and shot him. The second man then took the gun and engaged the officers, who also shot the second man.

One man has died. The other is in critical condition.

Police say a third man who fired a handgun fled.

Four other people were injured by shotgun pellets but are expected to survive
