Denver (AP) Fidelity National says it has purchased the Colorado operations of Denver-based Mercury Companies Incorporated, a firm that owns title companies.
Under the deal, Fidelity National will take over Security Title, First American Heritage Title, titLe America and United Title.
In a written announcement, Fidelity said the companies accounted for about 30 percent of Colorado's title insurance market in 2007.
Last week, Mercury announced it was shutting down its operations in Arizona, Texas and California, and was in negotiations to sell its Colorado operations to First American Title -- the nation's second-largest title company.
Mercury still has operations in Oregon.
Fidelity national of Jacksonville, Florida says its title insurance underwriters issue about 27 percent of all title insurance policies in the United States.
Fidelity also provides flood and home warranty insurance.
