As snow and rain continue to cover the High Country, the heavy traffic and dangerous driving conditions forced CDOT to shut down several sections of Interstate 70 for hours Sunday.

Eastbound I-70 at Vail Pass and Eastbound I-70 from Silverthorne to the Eisenhower Tunnel were closed just after 4:00pm Sunday. The stretch near Silverthorne reopened about 8:30 Sunday night. Vail Pass reopened just after 9:00. Chain restrictions are still in place for both sections.

The American Red Cross has opened an overnight shelter at the Silverthorne Rec Center and Silverthorne Elementary for stranded drivers. Red Cross officials say they've had 400 people at their shelters Sunday night.
