Governor Bill Ritter will announce almost $22 million in state construction projects as part of an effort to keep the economy going.
Ritter says he’ll use mineral lease revenue for construction projects in 35 cities. More details are to be announced this afternoon.
The construction announcement is the latest effort to gird the economy.
Last week, Ritter sent word to President-Elect Barack Obama requesting some 160 Colorado road projects worth $1.4 billion. Ritter has also set up economic summits and proposed a $12 million job creation, job training and business-assistance legislative package.
University of Colorado economists expect the state unemployment rate to rise to 6.5 percent next year as Colorado joins the rest of the U.S. in a recession.
