CSU Professor, Architect Of Peace Corps Dies

Fort Collins, Colo. (AP) Maurice Albertson, a Colorado State University researcher and an architect of the peace corps, has died after a brief illness. He was 90.

Albertson, a Colorado State professor emeritus, died Sunday. He And fellow CSU researchers GM Rice and Pauline Birky-Kreutzer responded to a request for a proposal in 1960 from the federal government for a model to encourage the nation’s youths to serve in Third world countries.

The Peace Corp was officially launched in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy. The group has more than 190,000 volunteers serving in 139 developing countries.

Albertson spent 30 years of his career at CSU.
