Boulder, Colo. (AP) Authorities say a homeless woman found dead in a storage closet at a Boulder town house complex had gotten pinned under a mattress that fell on her.
Police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley says 36-year-old Amory Feltes and a man were sleeping on a mattress in the closet late Saturday when the mattress shifted, causing a second, upright mattress to fall on them. Boxes, lamps and other items in the storage closet then fell onto the top mattress.
Huntley says another person sleeping in the closet was able to pull the man out, but they couldn’t get to Feltes in time. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Boulder county coroner’s office has not yet ruled on the cause of death.
Huntley says police are treating the incident as suspicious until they have reason to believe otherwise. She says detectives believe alcohol was a factor.
