Castle Rock, Colo. (AP) A hearing for a man accused of dragging his girlfriend to death has been postponed as prosecutors and defense lawyers huddled in meetings.
Thirty-eight-year-old Jose Luis Rubi-Nava is charged with murder and kidnapping in the September 2006 death of 49-year-old Luz Maria Franco Fierros.
A motions hearing was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, but it was postponed until Thursday. Both sides declined to comment.
Rubi-Nava smiled at supporters and pumped his fist as he waited.
Franco Fierros’ body was found near Castle Rock with a nylon strap around her neck at the end of a 1 ½-mile trail of blood. An autopsy report said she died from strangulation and massive head wounds from being dragged by a vehicle.
Prosecutors had said they were seeking the death penalty.
