Colorado Springs (AP) - A motorcyclist is dead and his passenger is hospitalized after the operator lost control while allegedly fleeing from Colorado State Patrol troopers.
Colorado Springs Police Sgt. Rich Smith says a State Patrol DUI enforcement vehicle was trying to pull over 41-year-old William Lee Campbell late Monday when Campbell refused to stop and led troopers on a pursuit at speeds reaching 95 mph.
Troopers soon called off the pursuit, but later spotted the motorcycle again. The bike then hit a curb, throwing Campbell and a female passenger off the motorcycle.
Campbell died at a Colorado Springs hospital. Smith says the passenger, 41-year-old Maria Renee Campbell, was injured but is expected to survive.
The State Patrol says neither victim wore a helmet.
