Denver (AP) – A major spring snowstorm has left hundreds of travelers stranded at Denver International Airport, with many of them standing before monitors reeling off dozens of "canceled" alerts.
Airport Spokesman Chuck Cannon stressed that the airport remains open, even though several airlines have proactively canceled flights.
DIA's dominant carrier, united airlines, canceled a combined 280 arrivals and departures in Denver by this afternoon. Airline Spokesman Rrahsaan Johnson says most travelers won't be subject to change fees when they rebook flights.
The airport's second–largest carrier, Denver–based Frontier Airlines, canceled 54 flights and its Lynx Aviation affiliate canceled 33. Spokesman Steve Snyder also says customers can rebook without extra fees.
Southwest Airlines has canceled at least 82 flights in and out of Denver.
DIA has deployed 300 pieces of equipment to keep runways and roadways clear, and some flights are still taking off and landing.
The road to the airport remains open but is down to one lane in each direction.
Amtrak and Union Pacific say service in Colorado hasn't been disrupted, but Union Pacific Spokesman Mark Davis says the weather could begin to impact operations tonight — particularly on its line between Denver and Salina, Kan.
