Colorado Town Creates Own Stimulus

One Colorado town has come up with its own economic stimulus plan.

But you've got to buy to participate.

It works like this: go to Lamar, Colorado.

Spend 300 bucks on just about anything but groceries and alcohol...and they'll give you a 30 dollar gift certificate only good at other shops in Lamar.

Buy a car and they'll give you a 100 dollar gas card for gas stations around town.

The city administrator, Ron Stock, says he came up with the incentives because so many shops were on the edge -- and the city couldn't wait for the federal government's stimulus to kick in.

"There was certainly a feeling of fear, what's going to happen next, how bad this is going to be, how long is it gonna run, can I hang on," says Stock. "And, we thought we'd try to change that a bit."

Stock added that he got the idea by looking at how cities survived during the Great Depression.

The offer runs through April.
