Aspen, Colo. (AP) - Two replica weapons that fire plastic BBs will be destroyed following a foot chase by Aspen police officers who tried to stop two teenage boys carrying the weapons, dressed in black, and wearing face paint.

Assistant Aspen Police Chief Linda Consuegra says police believed the weapons, which resembled a semiautomatic hand gun and shotgun, were lethal.

Consuegra says the officer who pursued the teens on foot Thursday could have been justified in shooting the teens because the orange safety tips are obscured at night.

No citations were issued.
