The Eagle County Sheriff's Office says a man made an unusual discovery as he was picking up trash near Homestake Access Road.

Officials say just before 5:30pm Tuesday, the man picked up a metal pipe, realized it might be pipe bomb, then threw it in the water. The man then told a Forest Service employee about the pipe, who in turn called authorities.

The Jefferson County Bomb Squad was called out to the scene, near mile 5.4 on Homestake Access Road. Officials say they found the bomb in the water and disabled it.

The Forest Service says about two years ago, it received reports of someone blowing up beaver dams in that same area.
