GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – The Colorado Department of Transportation’s Heat Is On campaign spread the word for revelers to designate a sober driver over St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
Four hundred and eighty-one Coloradans were arrested for a DUI over the St. Patrick’s Day enforcement period, which ran from Mar. 15 to Mar. 18. There were also no fatalities in traffic crashes. Arrests are up from last year, when there were 424 DUI arrests. The number of alcohol-related fatalities dropped significantly to zero from four in 2012.
CDOT partnered with Colorado State Patrol, 106 local law enforcement agencies statewide and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) on the campaign to emphasize the need to keep roads safe.
