Montrose, Colo. (AP) - Montrose police say a suspected thief jumped into a river to escape officers, or he just made it look that way.

Police said Tuesday the suspect still hasn't been captured, but officers found clothing and other items that may have belonged to him along the Uncompahgre River.

Police say the man and an alleged accomplice are suspected of stealing merchandise from an office depot store on Sunday evening, then driving away in a pickup.

Officers pursued the pickup into Riverbottom Park, where it crashed. Both suspects fled, but one was captured when he became entangled in a fence. Police identified him as 21-year-old Curtis Ebertowski.

Police searched downriver but found no sign of the other man.
Investigators say the truck had been stolen in Mesa County.
