Colorado State Troopers say six people involved in a rollover accident on I-70 Wednesday weren't ejected during the accident thanks to their seatbelts.

The accident happened just before 8 a.m. near mile marker 82 outside Rulison. The driver, Alicea Sheets of Colorado Springs was driving a Suburban eastbound when she ran off the road and lost control.

Troopers say the SUV rolled two and a half times and landed on its roof in the median. The six people inside the vehicle were wearing seatbelts and weren't ejected.

All the victims were taken to a Rifle-area hospital and three were released. The other three were flown to a Grand Junction hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

No word on if Sheets will be cited.

Pat, this is just another case of the media not quite getting the whole story and an uninformed citizen making a stupid comment about it. The injured people were from my family and the injuries were serious enough that the victims had to be stabilized in Rifle before they could be transported to the trauma center at St. Marys. One victim has broken cervical vertibrae, one child has a fractured skull, and another child has a fractured arm and internal injuries. While perhaps not "life threatening injuries" the medical professionals made the right call, the injured are in intensive care in a major trauma center and will probably recover.

If the three had non-life threatening injuries, then why fly them? Rifle is only 60 miles away. That's a hell of an expensive bill for not being that badly injured, and what if the damn thing crashed? And people wonder what's wrong with our health care system..
