New numbers released today show the unemployment rate in Mesa County continues to climb and has more than doubled from the same time last year.
Mesa County topped out at 8.9 percent last month, up three–tenths of a percent from May.
That's a drastic increase from June of 2008 when the unemployment rate was just over 4 percent.
Mesa County is above the state's June numbers but still lower than the national average of 9.5 percent.
According to the Labor Department Colorado had one of the smallest unemployment increases in the nation between March and June.
Still, the number of Coloradans without jobs is more than 73,000 higher than a year ago.
