A dead alligator has been found near Hotchkiss and the Colorado Division of Wildlife is trying to track down the person who brought it into the state.
The body of the four–foot reptile was found last week.
DOW officials believe the animal was illegally released into the wild and later died due to the climate.
They say owning exotic pets without a permit or releasing small exotic species like fish and frogs is against the law.
People with unwanted exotic pets should contact the local county animal control office, a veterinarian, or the DOW.
