Officials update residents with the latest on Montrose area fires.

Fire management officials say people in the Norwood area could see dust devils and some smoke in the area of the Grammar fire and that crews are still monitoring the fire.

They also say the Moon fire is now in monitor status with one engine on scene. The 20 person Hotshot crew that had been working on the blaze has being reassigned to other fires.

Montrose dispatchers received two reports of new fires late last night and say fFirefighters have responded to an area on Lennox Mesa northeast of Jumbo Mountain near Paonia. There is no other information available at this time.

Fire officals say a total of 871 lightning strikes hit the area in the last 24 hours and that more are expected throughout the rest of Monday.

If you see smoke you're asked to call Montrose Dispatch at 970-240-1010. They say it's important to be specific on the location in order to better help crews respond quickly to protect the community.
