Fire crews with the U.S. Forest Service are responding to a small wildfire just outside Aspen on the slopes of Smuggler Mountain.
Officials believe the blaze was started by lightning and was reported Monday afternoon. The fire is burning four miles south of Aspen and is less than one acre in size.
District Ranger Irene Davidson says fire officials are developing a management plan for the fire and that protecting private property in the area is a top priority.
