Troopers: Manhunt called off after car stolen in GJ, crashed in Delta County

A manhunt has been called off after a car stolen in Grand Junction was wrecked in Delta then abandoned.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the Honda Accord was wrecked in a single car crash at mile marker 64 on Highway 50 just west of Delta, just after 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

According to authorities, the suspect passed a trooper who clocked him going 113 mph. As the trooper was turning around to try to catch up with him, the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road and smashed into the median, then hit a road sign.

They say whomever was in the car took off toward the Department of Corrections in Delta.

Trained trackers from the Department of Corrections in Delta brought in special equipment like night vision goggles to follow the suspect.

Troopers say the Honda was stolen from Omni Hospital Services in Grand Junction. Officials say they've called off the active manhunt due to a lack of manpower.
