Durango, Colo. (AP) - Durango officials say sales tax revenue dropped 10.2 percent in July compared with a year earlier, the fourth straight monthly decline.

Year-to-date sales tax revenues are down 6.1 percent compared with the same period in 2008.

The city's hotel and motel room tax was down 9.5 percent in July compared with the previous year. For the first seven months of 2009, room tax revenues are down nearly 11 percent.

July is a key month for the travel industry in Durango, and City Manager Ron LeBlanc says the new numbers mean officials will have to consider more spending cuts.

The city has already scheduled most employees for four unpaid furlough days to save about $200,000, and open positions have been left vacant.
